You talk, we listen: new features at cPanel Crystal

Hosting lab, What's new Author: Tina Add comments

When we launched our new Cpanel theme Crystal some time ago, we asked our customers for feedback and suggestions. The top two features suggested by you were free backup and multilanguage support. So we did that.

You can now use Crystal in Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish. Just login at Crystal (yourdomain.com/cpanel), go to Preferences and look for the Change Language icon. Choose your language, hit “Change” and you are done. Simple enough, right?

We have also added backup functionality in our cPanel. It’s not the default backup script that cpanel offers as that script tends to overload the server. The backup script you get in Crystal is a custom one created by our team. Check out this video for details:

Last, but not least we’ve also improved the “Notices” section in our cPanel. In the “Notices” section, you will see alerts when any of your email accounts goes beyond the email quota and will provide directions on how to optimize that particular mailbox. Don’t worry! We will not disable your email accounts. On the contrary, once you’ve completed the notice instructions, your email will be working flawlessly and without any interruption.

The good news: we keep ourselves busy and will soon add more alerts and improvements. We just want to make sure that customers will not miss any important information related to their hosting accounts.

Have suggestions and opinions about Crystal? Do let us know!

Great that there is a free comprehensive backup – nice ! thanks very much. I have been fighting with using the mysql application on the PC to get my DB backed up. I’m guessing that my DB was too big for the phpmyadmin export to generate a file before the cpu limiter killed it.

I will definitely give the new backup a try.

It tells me that I have over 500Mb in my account so the one shot backup is not possible – but via the file manager I can still do a file system backup.

So my question now is how can I really see where my disk is being used ? 900Mb at last count. I can see the mysql sizes and some sizes via the control panel. How can I find out more detail for deep directories etc ?

SiteGround seems to be quite innovative and worthy of great things in hosting circles.

Thank you all for your positive feedback!

@ Antonio working on it, hope Italian will be available soon at Crystal.

@ Rosacea Support Group My colleagues from the support team advised that you better post a ticket regarding more detailed information about your account directories and sizes.

Don’t forget about us dedicated server users! Crystal is like a pretty shiny toy being dangled in front of my face…but I can’t have it. (Yet?)

Meg, “Yet” is the right word. Implementing Crystal for ds users requires more time. Niki and his team will have your recommendations in mind and we all hope that Crystal will be an option for dedicated server users cpanel.

Thanks for keeping ahead of the technology curve you guys. G4G is only using 1% of Siteground Power right now but it is great to know that Siteground will accommodate our future growth.

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate the work you guys are doing. There were so many steps before to get into the cPanel. I love just typing in my domain_name/cpanel. I also am ecstatic about the backups. I have procedures in place to restore the website, but this will be much simpler. Still, I won’t give up my old backups. A little reduncancy never hurts!

Thanks guys for the integrated backup feature.

It encouraged me to clean up my account so that I could get in under the 500Mb size limit. Had a scan of the backup file that was created and it looks really comprehensive. Thanks so much for a great feature addition. It gives me confidence in you as a company knowing that you aren’t passively (or actively) trying to tie my up as a customer by locking in my data.

Yeap! Dedicated server users would love to have the backup feature too :) (AND the Crystal theme, as now it is not available for ds).

So, when you think you will have it done for DS too? :)

    ciao,

    O.

It’s nice to know you don’t need another modul to make backups.

    Hi,

    congratulations on the new features!

I would like to know if the instructions here
    http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/sugarcrm/sugarcrm-backup.htm

… about Backing up our SugarCRM still apply, or if the new Backup script takes care of everything? That would be an awesome feature.

    Thanks.

How do you get to the new CP? I enter mydomain.net/cpanel and just get the old “X” version.

  21. Tina Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 1:58 am

@Eric Westland Yes, this is the right url for accessing your cpanel – yourdomain.net/cpanel. The issue with the old “X” version is fixed. You should already be able to see the Crystal theme :) Cheers!
